  The dead are no longer buried in the city of Silver Soot. It's a new era and the deceased are placed formally in walking machines called Sarcs, which behave as talking memorials. With a calm visage of rest modelled after the face of the body they carry, Sarcs are the perfect way to remember loved ones. And some are even incredibly affordable!

  However, as with all machines, maintenance is required and only the Agents of S.C.R.U. are qualified and state-approved  to repair any malfunctioning Sarc. When one Carrier (Sarc) begins acting dangerously erratic, a particularly lonely, overly verbose, Agent is called on to handle the matter. What this  repairman finds is a conspiracy that threatens to redefine

what being dead is all about.

   The agent awoke this morning disliking life and hating death.  He never until today thought much about everything in between.
